Sasha Koziak was born and raised in Ft.Worth,Texas to a stage mother who had her dancing, singing, and acting as soon as she could walk and talk… She grew up doing plays at Casa Mañana Theater, dancing at the state fairs and at all the “fests” Octoberfest, Mayfest, etc. And she’s pretty sure she eventually performed at every mall in town. She fell in love with clogging as a teen and was snatched up by The Yellow Rose Cloggers out of Houston, Tx, where she went on to compete and perform with them all over the south She was one half of the singing/clogging duo “GoldDust” that performed regularly on “Johnny High’s Country Music Review” and at the Grapevine Opry. She was Miss Azle Teen and competed in the Miss Teen Texas USA pageant, she only made the top five, but seriously won Miss Congenitally.
Sasha appeared on ” Star Search” her senior year of high school and shortly after graduating was awarded a professional dance scholarship to the Edge Performing Arts Center and relocated to Los Angeles. She went on to work with choreographers such as Dorianna Sanchez and Bubba Car, Adam Shankman, and Anita Mann. She even did some time as a lounge dancer in a show at “Caesar’s Atlantic City”. She has choreographed appeared and written for various productions at the Elephant Theater, The Second stage theater, and The Second City Los Angeles, She’s choreographs line dances and music videos for the band “Pilbilly Knights” and “the LA Hootenanny “ with which she still performs regularly. She was a member of the Cabaret group “The Muse Project” for 6 years and still misses dawning her fringe panties and thigh highs on a regular basis.
A certified Pilates instructor trained by Romana Krysanowski of the Authentic Pilates lineage of Mr. Pilates himself, Sasha owned Powerhouse Authentic Pilates in Pasadena for 11years. And since her early 20’s she has also been a freelance fashion stylist and most recently worked with The Backstreet Boys costuming for their current Las Vegas residency.
In 2013 she assisted Tony award winning choreographer Warren Carlyle along side Tony Award winning director Jerry Zaks in an original Randy Newman musical “Harps and Angels” And In April of 2015 she was lucky enough to met the lovely Julia Fowler while working on a TV pilot with her. She loved dancing in the Southern Women Channel’s dance video for Keith Urban’s hit song, “The Fighter” and is grateful to have made such an immediate connection with some new southern sisters. She looks so forward to more creative projects with all of them! And of course more clogging with Julia!
Sasha raised two beautiful sons into thriving young artists. Her oldest son studies at RISD and the other is about to begin his first year in NYC at The Cooper Union and she’s so proud of both of them.
Currently, while trying not to freak out about the impending “empty nest,” Sasha has a few projects in development… a web series she wrote called “I’m 35 and my mom just cut me off” ; a live stage show coming soon to the Bootleg Theater “The Country Cabaret”; and is about to launch her brand new podcast called, “Take off your pants with Sasha & DJ” –where they take their pants off, get comfortable, and have uncomfortable conversations– stay tuned!
Thank you to Julia and all the beautiful southern women on this channel, I am honored and delighted to be a part of the Southern Women Channel.
