Debbie Zaltman is over the moon to join the fabulous belles of Southern Women Channel to play, “Miriam,” the lobstah loving Yankee in THE SHOWER COMMITTEE.
Debbie was born and raised in West Peabody, Massachusetts on Boston’s North Shore. She walked at nine months and started to dance and sing shortly thereafter. At 4 years old, Debbie requested that she be given a disco solo in her dance recital. Her wish was granted and it was all about the stage and lights from then on! She performed in several kid’s musicals with the JCC. It was from there that a director made an introduction to casting agencies in Boston. Debbie got her SAG card at 7 years old acting in several TV commercials, industrials, and television specials. At age 9, she was chosen to be one of the first community theater, “Annies” in ANNIE. During this time, Debbie was also in the traveling theater company, CACPA’s, FOR THE LOVE OF THEATER, which was a variety show of musical numbers and fables.
Dance and theater remained her life. Most afternoon’s were spent at Expressions School of Dance in Peabody doing high school theater where playing “Truvy” in STEEL MAGNOLIAS was her favorite — yes up North they cast Yankees in that play. When she was not acting and dancing, Debbie enjoyed cheerleading for her high school’s Division 1 Championship football team. Upon graduation, Debbie headed south for college. She spent her first two years of college at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia as a dance major and performing in musicals, and then transferred to Emerson College in Boston where she received a BFA in Musical Theater.
The next chapter of Debbie’s life was spent in NYC. Debbie landed roles in regional productions of: WEST SIDE STORY, A CHORUS LINE, ME AND MY GIRL, ANNIE, BYE, BYE BIRDIE, and POWERLUNCH, to name a few. Soon after she booked the Broadway National Tour of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, which is where she met fellow cast member, Julia Fowler. They became dear friends and Debbie was a bridesmaid in Julia’s wedding and wants all the Southern Women Channel fans to know she’s very proud of the fact she managed not to annoy any of the southern bridesmaids. LOL!
After tour Debbie decided to give Los Angeles a try and her work in theater continued on the West Coast. She originated the role of “Jenny” in Pasadena Playhouse’s, “SOUTH STREET”, was cast in Reprise’s production of LI’L ABNER, and stayed busy working as a dancer in various operas, industrials, and television shows.
While dance and theater will always be Debbie’s first love (along with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots), TV and Film are her current focus. As an actress, her television credits include: BONES, 10-8; OFFICERS ON DUTY, Amazon’s TALES TO GET SCARED TO, MY CRAZY EX and the film, WITHIN.
Most recently Debbie was cast as “Debra Finerman” in Ryan Murphy’s, AMERICAN CRIME STORY-IMPEACHMENT, which will premiere on FX fall 2021. However, as awesome as it was to work with Ryan Murphy, nothing will ever quite match the honor of being the first Yankee to ever appear in a video on The Southern Women Channel!
